Deficient Weatherproofing of New Houses
Timberwood Inspections performs construction-phase inspections in The Woodlands, Spring, Tomball, Conroe and the greater Houston Texas area. This video shows the deficient taping and flashing of windows that is unfortunately an all too common occurrence in new home construction.
Correctly installing the weatherproof membrane and flashing around an exterior window takes the same amount of time as installing the weatherproof membrane and flashing incorrectly. So, why are so many windows being installed incorrectly in new homes. I can only suspect that it’s a lack of education on the part of the subcontractor and an oversight on the part of the builder. Either way, deficiencies in home weatherproofing are just as important (some may say more important) than structural deficiencies in a home. Water, especially wind-driven rain, has a way of penetrating through the smallest holes in the exterior claddings. Therefore, attention to detail is very important to prevent water infiltration and long term water damage to a home.
